A cruise ship company is hiring a ‘professional’ holidaymaker to post three Instagram pictures a day from free cruises around the world – while raking in the equivalent to a £52,000 salary.

The successful applicant will be paid to go on three different cruises during a three-week summer internship while documenting their travels on the social media site.

Describing the exact details of what will be required, Royal Caribbean International says the person must ‘post three photos on Instagram each day while on each cruise’.

It then stipulates what the pictures must include, including: one of a view – either the sea, port, horizon, or ship facilities; an ‘extraordinary experience’, which can be on the ship or on land, and one of an ‘extraordinary person’.

The advert says this can be someone ‘met on board with an interesting story to tell, a crew member with a unique role or an extraordinary local person met during a shore excursion’.

The person will also be required to go on three different shore excursions on each cruise itinerary.

It adds that the person must ‘use Instagram posts each day to invite other Instagram users to make recommendations to them on what he or she should experience in each destination’.

They will also have to make a video of the experience which is suggested to them.

The successful applicant will be paid £3,000 for three weeks of ‘work’ this summer – the equivalent of a £52,000 a year salary – and get full travel and food expenses.

Royal Caribbean is taking applications for the ‘Intern-Ship of the Seas’ role from today, exclusively via Instagram.

It says it is hunting for an ‘extraordinary explorer’ to document their travels.

Research undertaken by the cruise company shows 48 per cent of holidaymakers rely on social media to book a trip and 34 per cent said they wouldn’t even consider booking a trip without consulting the web.

The importance of the internet for holiday booking is even more pronounced among those aged 18-24, with 51 per cent of this age group stating they rely completely on social media when researching holidays.

Almost a third stating that they use Instagram as their main source of social media influence.
