The opposition coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, marking a major move to challenge the ruling APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a strategic reshuffle, former Senate President David Mark has been named Interim National Chairman, while ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola was appointed Interim National Secretary. The appointments are expected to be officially ratified at a follow-up meeting on Wednesday.

Confirming the development on X, former PDP spokesperson Kola Ologbondiyan said, “ADC has been adopted as the political party for the coalition.”

In his acceptance speech, Aregbesola criticized Nigeria’s current political structure, describing most parties as lacking ideological focus and driven solely by personal ambition. He said he joined the ADC leadership to help restore direction and principle to Nigerian politics.

The appointments were announced at a high-level meeting of opposition leaders held in Abuja on Tuesday.
