Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has opened up about her willingness to give marriage another shot—on one condition: divine approval.

In a candid interview with BBC, posted on Facebook, the 58-year-old revealed that she still believes in love and the institution of marriage. She said, “If God has destined a woman to marry six men before meeting the one truly meant for her, she won’t stop at the fifth. If it’s ten, she won’t stop at the ninth. I genuinely want to get married again; it’s something I truly desire. However, if God permits it, I will go ahead. If He forbids it, I won’t insist on it as a necessity.”

Wright, who owns a fashion brand (B Collections) and a beauty spa (B Wright), has reportedly been married five times—one of her ex-husbands being journalist Femi Davies, who confirmed their past relationship in a 2019 interview. She also shares two sons, Gbenga and Eniola, with Gboyega Amu.

Despite past experiences, Wright remains hopeful about love. “I never discourage women from getting married because I personally love the institution of marriage. To show how deeply I value it, I once went to the Kaaba and prayed to God, knowing He hears prayers,” she added. “I have my shortcomings, but if a man treats me in a way I cannot accept, I will not remain in that marriage.”

On Women’s Fashion Choices

Touching on the subject of indecent dressing, Wright noted that the trend isn’t limited to actresses alone. According to her, the fashion shift is a wider societal issue.

“I often ask my male friends if they are the reason women now expose their breasts like this, and they usually tell me they like it—that it turns them on,” she said, suggesting that social preferences may be influencing these fashion choices.

Life Abroad and Raising Children

Bukky Wright also reflected on her journey outside Nigeria. After losing her 2014 bid for a seat in the House of Representatives under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), she relocated abroad for the sake of her children.

“My children were the reason I chose to live the way I have. I devoted my time to raising them as a responsible mother,” she explained.

Adjusting to life abroad came with its own challenges. “Back then, I used to say the only thing my brain could count was money—that I couldn’t even read a book. But when I got abroad, I told myself I wouldn’t do menial jobs. I wanted to return to school,” she revealed.

Determined to chart a new course, Wright studied Information Technology, specializing in IT audit and cybersecurity. “That’s what a person needs—to push oneself and trust that God, in His mercy, will make it successful,” she said.

Bukky Wright, who began her acting career in 1996, rose to prominence for her role as Olórì Tinuola in Tunde Kelani’s 1999 classic Saworoide.
