Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has revealed that some governors and senior members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are secretly supporting the new opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections. Speaking on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines, Lawal stated that although these individuals have not publicly declared support, they are aligned with the coalition’s mission to unseat the current government.
Lawal, who served under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, said he had been working against the APC from within due to the party’s intolerance of free speech. “The APC has always been ruled by intimidation. You can’t even offer advice without being labeled anti-party,” he said.
He accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of disappointing many of its former loyalists. “This government has failed to meet expectations, and many of us want a better alternative,” he added.
Lawal dismissed the idea that the opposition coalition is led by one person, noting that Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Rotimi Amaechi are all involved. He emphasized the coalition’s strategy of unity over personal ambition to challenge the APC in 2027.
